AGITA – Associação de Guias de Informação Turística dos Açores (Azores Tour Guides Association) a non-profit professional association, which represents the Tour Guides from the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
We provide qualified professionals to accompany tourists, individuals or groups, on the nine islands. Several different types of tours can be booked from regular tours to hiking trails.
Oficially registered on the 29th of May 2020 in Ponta Delgada, AGITA appears as a project that intends to unite the Tour Guides of the Azores. One of the main purposes of the Association is to defend and promote this profession on the Azores.

On July 5th 2020 occured the first elections for AGITA’s board members.

Admission
Main purposes
To defend and represent the profession;
To figth for the autonomy and recognition of the professionals;
To claim professional qualifications and regulations in the Region;
To promote the decentralization of the Association strengthening the bonds between the nine islands;
Request, promote and disseminate training in areas of interest to members;
To organize meetings and forums concerning the tour guide profession and important work related subjects;
To establish connections with partners, other professionals and organizations in the Tourism sector;
To pro-actively work to ensure AGITA has recognition and visibility not only among its associates but also in the Tourism sector and the azorean society.

Admission of members
According to Chapter II of the AGITA’s internal regulations, any individual residing in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, who works as a tour guide, in conformity with the regional law, can be accepted as an associate if it meets the demanded requirements.
It is the responsibility of the Executive Board to deliberate about the associate admissions. Tour Guides who intend to became associates should at least fulfill one of the following admission requirements:

Tour Guide professional card;
Tourism degree;
Post-graduation, master degree or doctorate in the Tourism area;
Tourism technical and professional course;
Regional/National Tour Guide certification;
Certificate as Guia de Parque Natural de Ilha;
Certificate as a Mountain Guide;
